Florida’s 2026 Hunting, Fishing, and Camping Sales Tax Holiday is officially here, and it is big news for anyone shopping for a used gun in Florida. From September 1, 2026, through December 31, 2026, the state is waiving sales tax on firearms, ammunition, and a long list of firearm accessories. That is four full months of tax-free gun buying, and unlike most of Florida’s tax holidays, there is no price cap on firearms or ammo. At Action Firearms Florida, that means every pre-owned pistol, rifle, and shotgun in our case just got cheaper.

What the Florida Sales Tax Holiday Covers
The Florida Department of Revenue’s guidelines for the 2026 Hunting, Fishing, and Camping Sales Tax Holiday list the following as fully exempt from sales tax during the holiday period:
- Firearms – pistols, rifles, and shotguns, with no price limit.
- Ammunition – any complete round with a hull or casing, primer, projectile, and gunpowder.
- Firearm accessories – barrels, cases and range bags, charging handles, cleaning kits, handguards, holsters, internal parts, magazines, pistol grips, chronographs, shooting mats, rests and bipods, sights and optics, slides and cylinders, slings, stocks and braces, suppressors, and triggers.
- Bows and crossbows – plus arrows, bolts, quivers, releases, and sights.
Fishing and camping gear also qualifies, but those categories have per-item price limits. Firearms, ammunition, and the listed accessories do not, which is why the sales tax holiday is such a great time to buy a gun.
Does the Sales Tax Holiday Apply to Used Guns?
Yes. The exemption applies to the item being sold, not whether it is new or pre-owned. A used Glock, a pre-owned Remington 870, or a trade-in AR-15 purchased from a licensed Florida dealer during the holiday is tax-free just like a brand new one. Because our used guns for sale are already priced well below new, stacking the sales tax holiday on top makes for the best deal you will find all year. How Much Can You Save During the Sales Tax Holiday?
Florida’s state sales tax is 6%, and most counties add a local surtax on top. On a $600 used handgun, the sales tax holiday saves you roughly $36 to $45. On a $1,500 rifle and optic setup, savings can top $100. Add a case of ammunition, a new holster, and a couple of spare magazines, and the savings add up quickly. Sales Tax Holiday Rules to Know Before You Buy
A few details from the Department of Revenue guidance are worth knowing. Rentals of otherwise exempt items are still taxable. Items bundled in a set that mixes exempt and taxable goods do not qualify. Layaway purchases qualify if you place the item on layaway or take delivery during the holiday window. Federal background check requirements and Florida’s waiting period rules are unchanged, so plan ahead if you have a specific date in mind. You can read the official guidance on the Florida Department of Revenue website.
