Description
DECO DSM .36 Deutsches Sport Modell 5.4mm (.22 LR) Training Rifle – Serial #B1716
This DECO DSM .36 is a German Deutsches Sport Modell bolt-action training rifle, chambered in 5.4mm (.22 LR), with serial number B1716. Produced in the 1930s by Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) under the DECO trade name, this rifle was built for civilian marksmanship and youth paramilitary training during the rise of National Socialist Germany.
Styled closely after the Karabiner 98k, this DSM features a full-length hardwood stock, straight bolt handle, tangent rear sight, and hooded front post, giving trainees realistic practice with a rimfire platform. The DSM .36 designation refers to the 1936 standard pattern for German sport and training rifles used by shooting clubs and Nazi-affiliated organizations such as the Hitler Youth.
These rifles often bear Nazi-era eagle proofs or cartouches, and their historical association, combined with solid German craftsmanship, makes them highly collectible. The “B” serial prefix suggests it was part of a later production batch, with factory updates or variant features.
This DECO DSM .36 is an outstanding example of a pre-war German training rifle—rich in both history and shooting tradition. A must-have for collectors of WWII-era rimfires or German military trainers.
